CLIFFORD - A Nicholson man is charged with stealing saw blades from a business he worked at, and selling them at a recycling center.

Myles Chester Kilmer, 28, of RR 1, Nicholson, faces charges of burglary and theft by unlawful taking.

He was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on Tuesday in the office of Magisterial District Judge Suzanne Brainard in Clifford. That hearing was continued until March 10. He is also scheduled to have a bail hearing today, March 3, before Brainard.

According to the police complaint, on Jan. 23, Kilmer entered the building at a stone yard by using a key concealed next to an overhead door. He then removed some saw blades from behind saws, and from shelving located throughout the building.

The foreman of the shop, Sinon T. Gulley, told police that whoever took the blades had to have known where the key was hidden. He said the key was there for workers who showed up early, and could not easily be seen.

According to the complaint, Gulley said a co-worker had contacted Shelly Kilmer because he suspected that her son, Myles, who is also a grandson of Herb Kilmer might have some involvement.

Gulley gave police a list of the blades taken, and estimated their value at more than $10,000.

Police said on Jan. 25, one of Kilmer's workers located the blades at GJ&S Recycling in Springville Township. Gulley said he had a list of junkyards and recycling centers that Kilmer took items to.

Gulley told police when he arrived at the Springville facility, Kilmer was there. Someone at the recycling center told Gulley that Kilmer brought in some large saw blades on Jan. 23 and cashed them in for $132.30. Gulley checked the yard and found some of the blades, but they were damaged.

The recycling center provided police with copies of the receipts it gave to Kilmer, as well as a copy of Kilmer's operator's license he brought in at the time.

On Jan. 26, Kilmer was interviewed by state police. He admitted taking the blades and selling them for scrap.

Kilmer was also arrested on drug charges in Luzerne County this past Saturday (Feb. 27).

Wilkes-Barre police reported an officer saw Kilmer having a possible domestic dispute in a vehicle on West Market Street, near River Street, on Saturday at about 10:27 p.m. The officer found various drug paraphernalia on his person, and was arrested, taken to police headquarters and charged accordingly.

In that incident, he has a preliminary hearing on April 6 before District Judge Martin Kane in Wilkes-Barre.
